Mourning is a concept that has been repeatedly explored by cinema. Otherwise, Sky is Everywhere would be another movie to add to this wide range and we might not have talked much. However, the director, Josephine Decker, made sure to make her film something special, something that gives the melodrama and the respective teen films a different perspective.
Sky Is Everywhere follows the lives of Lennie and Bailey’s sister
The two sisters grew up from a very young age without their mother and so they learned to find each other the support they are looking for. But when Bailey dies, Lennie is left behind and is called upon to find her balance without the support of her sister. Then two separate people come into her life. On one side is Toby, Bailey’s boyfriend, with whom she shares the same mourning and grief over the loss of her sister. On the other hand, comes to the fore Joe, a young student at Bailey’s school, who loves music as much as she does.
Suddenly Bailey finds herself in a dilemma, from which she believes that only her sister would help her out. She is united with Toby by the common mourning and understanding that exists between them. It is her consolation and the person she can turn to without judging her. On the other hand, Joe is the hope that there is life and joy after mourning and symbolizes all the dreams she has had so far.

Instead, by mixing the cinematic genres and finding its own separate space in what is happening, she created a film that is a bright exception. The plot and the story may be quite familiar to us, but the way they are presented offers a freshness to the genre we needed for years.
