Adrien Brody made last Sunday (2) the longest thanks speech in Oscar history, staying on stage for 5 minutes and 40 seconds. Despite being promised to be brief, the actor broke a record of eight decades by receiving the best actor statuette for his role in “The Brutalist.”
The 5 -minute and 30 -second brand was from British star Greer Garson, winner of the best actress award in 1943, according to the Guinness book portal. After Greer’s speech, the academy introduced the practice of limiting the time of the winners starting a song.
But Brody asked the orchestra to stop playing while he was still talking. The actor’s long speech recalled the duration of “The Brutalist,” a three and a half hour drama, which was the longest nominated film of the year.
The actor thanked more than a dozen people in his speech, including his parents, his girlfriend and the film team. “If the past can teach us something, it’s a reminder so we don’t let hatred pass without control,” he said.
Before taking the stage, Brody stopped to take a gum, who played for his girlfriend. “I forgot I was masking gum. I had to get rid of him somehow!” He explained later.
