You have been able to hear a song and then you can’t get it out of your mind, whatever you do? It can be a simple advertisement, a chorus you heard on the radio or a song that someone was singing next to you. Suddenly, your personal “music loop” becomes and mingle or sipping all day without even wanting it. But why is this happening?

The phenomenon of earlyworms

This feel is named and is called “early” (from the English “ear worm”), and no, it doesn’t mean you have a germ in your head! It is a scientific term that describes the music that is repeatedly repeated in your mind. According to surveys, 90% of people experience earlyworms at least once a week, and sometimes they can last for days.

Why is this happening?

Scientists say that our brain loves music, but the songs that “stick” have some common features:

• They are simple and repetitive, which makes them easy to memorize.
• They have a catchy melody (think of the pop music choruses that remain indelible).
• There is some emotional connection – if you hear a song in a nice moment, your mind keeps it.
• They are songs you often hear, even if you don’t realize it.

How to get it out of your mind

If you feel you are stuck and you can no longer be able to mingle the same chorus, you can try the following:

• Listen to another song that you know well especially a melodic more complex, such as classical music or jazz.
• Do something that distracts your attention, such as reading or solving a puzzle.
• Complete the song. Many times the mind repeats it because it doesn’t remember the end. Listen to the whole and you can peel off!
• Massa a chewing gum. Research shows that chewing can block the reproduction of Earworms in the brain.

If you don’t want to get rid of it again, just enjoy it. Maybe it’s the soundtrack of your day and who knows, it can hide a message you haven’t yet decoded.
