Angelina Jolie visited the Piaraçu village, on the Jarina Capoto-Indigenous Land in Xingu Park in Mato Grosso, and talked with Cacique Raoni Metuktire on Wednesday (2).
Videos and photos that circulate on social networks show Hollywood actress alongside one of the world’s leading indigenous leaders as well as indigenous children and women.
The images were published on Instagram by a Jolie fan club, but do not appear in the actress’s accounts on social networks.
According to RDNews, Mato Grosso News Portal, the visit was confirmed by Patxon Metuktire, grandson of Raoni. The official reason for the presence of the film star and social activist in the village was not disclosed.
According to the G1, the actress arrived in the village along with the environmental organization Re: Wild, founded by scientists and actor Leonardo DiCaprio. She would be in Brazil to get to know the connection of indigenous peoples to the forests.
Jolie is the protagonist of “Maria”, a biographical film about Maria Callas, directed by Pablo Larraín. To represent soprano, she had singing classes for seven months and learned arias of opera masters such as Giacomo Puccini and Giuseppe Verdi.
Jolie’s visit to Raoni took place two days before Lula’s meeting with the chief, with whom she climbed the Planalto Palace ramp in presidential inauguration in January 2023.
According to the president’s advisory, Lula will be this Friday (4) in the Jarina Indigenous Land and will meet the chief and other indigenous leaders of the Xingu River Basin.
