Canadian rapper Drake obtained a victory in court in a part of a process that involves him, Universal Music and musician Kendrick Lamar. This is because a judge has allowed him to have access to label contract documents in a defamation action.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Drake got copies of the song of recording the song “Not Like Us”, which Universal had called “highly commercially sensitive.”
Remember that the song has excerpts that criticize Drake, as a part that claims that he treated former serene tennis player Williams barely when they were together. In another passage, Drake is called “Pedophile”.
The music, which stretches the rivalry among rappers, yielded five Grammy awards to Lamar and was an absolute success in the United States in 2024. He also played at the Super Bowl.
According to the lawsuit, the label wrote that Drake’s team has requested all contracts between her and Lamar, as well as the executive remuneration structure and annual incentive plans in the last five years.
According to Drake’s lawyer, Mark Gottlieb, “now it’s time to see what UMG was trying to hide so desperately.”
Since January that Drake sues Universal for defamation. In the Canadian’s claim, the company “approved, published and launched a campaign to create a viral hit from a rap range with the intention of conveying the specific, unmistakable and false factual claim that Drake is a criminal pedophile.”
