Singer Netinho, 58, announced on Friday (11) that he will undergo a bone marrow transplant after finishing chemotherapy sessions, as part of the treatment of cancer in the lymphatic system. The interpreter of “Mila” and “I need you” revealed the diagnosis of the disease on its official website, on March 22, through the release of a medical bulletin.
Hospitalized in a hospital in Salvador, Bahia, he recorded a video for fans detailing the treatment. “I am finishing the second phase of my chemotherapy. There will be six in total and, in the end, there will be a marrow transplant. Without donor – a transplant of me to myself. I will go through all the phases. Everything is going very well. Let’s go,” said Netinho.
Bone marrow transplantation is an essential procedure for the treatment of serious blood and immune disease, such as leukemia, lymphomas, marrow aplasia, immunodeficiency syndromes and multiple myeloma. The procedure consists of replacing the sick bone marrow or compromised by a healthy marrow.
Transplantation may be autogenic when the marrow comes from the patient himself – as in the case quoted by singer Netinho. In allogenic transplantation, the marrow comes from a compatible donor.
On February 25, Netinho had been admitted to the same Aliança hospital in the Bahian capital after reporting severe back pain and difficulty walking. The Bahian even canceled the carnival concert schedule. After several exams, he received the diagnosis
