Ten years at the forefront of European dance. Recently awarded the new Grand International Rose International Dance Prize International Dance Award that introduced the renowned dance center of England, Sadler’s Wells. Praise comments where it travels and invitations from important international organizations to choreograph for them. He is the Christos Papadopoulos coming to captivate us with his new show, My Fierce Ignorant Step, by 8 to 18 May on the Central Stage. In this fourth collaboration with the roof of the Onassis Foundation, he invites us to believe that everything is possible.

While the tour of his previous works continues to make sense of scenes around the world, Christos Papadopoulos submits his most personal work and, for the first time, links the materiality of sound to the musicality of the bodies. In his new work, My Fierce Ignorant Step, at a world premiere Before embarking on an impressive international journey, a plural body pulses on stage, walks with eyes wide open. His breath becomes a voice that drives the steps: sometimes big, sometimes small, always stable and decisive, almost carefree. The dancers’ bodies breathe, their breaths become sounds, which turn into voices and movements, a constantly inflating galloping, causing euphoria.

At My Fierce Ignorant Step, Papadopoulos wants to consciously elaborate on the influence that music has exerted on him as a collective memory activated through sounds. Music as a landscape that lives within us is transported everywhere and helps us to go back instantly to a moment of the past that has not passed. Everything is still here. Or at least this is considering this project. The truth of youth, the momentum and the boldness that, if we consider it passing, graphic and cute, will be lost – not only that but also the meaning of our world.

For the choreographer, the first impulse for the creation of My Fierce Ignorant Step is founded on acoustic memories of his childhood and youth, which he himself shares with many other Greeks: Memories of collective and connected to the fate of our country, even if this is not immediately visible. The work resists compliance with a storm of forms, with a desire for the present, the future and the past, with a desire for life bold, tired, completely human, made of our fragile, insignificant flesh.

This work brings to the forefront qualities that have always existed in the work of Christos Papadopoulos, but here the emphasis is radically changed. There are themes and materials that concern him from the beginning but now they are clearly distinguished; and within them they are The concept of ‘together’the simple first point where both politics and love seem to appear. That is why in the work the performers dance together.

“The synchronization of multiplied movement happens but it is not the purpose; we do not dance together because we are synchronized but we synchronize because we are together. The system is not a priority that is not even a beauty. All of this looks like tricks to find, to exist, to meet, to wonder with the energy it is born, the harmful and scattering and is given. There is a value that connects things here. It is not the belief in a system, in a machine or in a trick but the bold credibility of the good » Christos Papadopoulos notes.

And he continues for his new work: “How can there be no anger with everything that happens around us? How to withstand this reality? The political situation, the rise of the far -right, the corruption, the wars, which we have now accepted as a political regularity, the destruction of the environment – all that we thought we would never live in, are here. In this gloomy reality, where the boundaries of dystopia have already been overcome, I have returned lately to my teens. I remember that time for life, speed, non -negotiable momentum, the feeling that everything is possible. That fearless certainty that the world is in front of us, open, ours and that we will live it as we want it and as we deserve. This work is an attempt to retrieve that feeling. To find it again. And with her, to find that power, optimism and sense of “together” again. Remember that hoping is already an act of resistance and that that boldness was neither naive nor graphic. It was true. And it’s still. “
