The owner of the roofs of Rome: Learn curiosities about Ilze Scamparini

Since last Monday (21), Rome has been taken by press professionals around the world due to the death of Pope Francis and the following in the coming days.

The Brazilian viewer, however, has its favorite correspondent: Ilze Scamparini. Globo reporter in the Italian capital for over 25 years, Ilze arouses curiosity, receives compliments and becomes meme whenever he appears live on the station’s news with news from the other continent.

In a recent publication of a humor page on Instagram, fans melt on a collection of photos from Ilze. “She’s so chic,” “she’s awesome” and “she has killed three popes” are some of the comments extolling the journalist.

Ilze has also been compared to Batman and the character of the Video Game Assassin’s Creed because of his breathtaking scenery. The view is from the terrace of the journalist’s apartment in Piazza Navona. This is where she lives with her husband, Italian writer and screenwriter Domenico Savern, with whom she has been married for over 20 years.

Paulista de Araras and descendant of Italians, Ilze has been working at Globo since 1984. In 1997, he became corresponding in Los Angeles, where he stayed for two years. In 1999 he was transferred to Italy and stayed there. He covered John Paul 2nd, Benedict 16 and Francisco, as well as wars, heads of heads of state and the burst of the covid-19 pandemic in Europe.

Currently, Ilze is a Vaticanist, a title given to the professionals of the Vatican officially accredited.

When she is not working, she likes to receive friends for dinner and dedicate herself to literature. In 2021, he published his first novel, “shoot straight into my heart,” a fiction inspired by a Kosovo War Soldier (1998-1999) that Ilze met during his roofs.

In an interview with Globo in 2013, she talked about the importance of the conclave. “Conclave is extraordinary not only for Catholics. The Pope is also a head of state. In wars, Vatican diplomacy can have a lot of value.”

At the time, he highlighted one of the most important moments of his professional life: “The trip I made with Chico Mendes by Acre aboard a small plane to know the life of rubber tappers. That, yes, was discovering the world.”

He also cited his first job, as an intern in Henfil in the 1980s. “Transcribed interviews by others with ABC Paulista workers, who were delivered to Henfil,” he said.
