After a week hospitalized at the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Sao Paulo, Preta Gil, 50, used social networks on Wednesday (7) to report that he was discharged hospital. The singer, who treats colorectal cancer since January 2023, shared a photo next to her father, Gilberto Gil.
Preta also announced that he will start a new stage of treatment, this time in the United States. “I’m already home and always surrounded by my loves! I follow here strengthening me, next week, start a new stage of my treatment in the United States!” He wrote in the caption of the image, where he appears with his father and stepmother, Flora Gil.
This was the singer’s second hospitalization in less than a month. In April, she was hospitalized between the 6th and 16th, also at the Syrian-Lebanese hospital, after being transferred from Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo in an air ICU. According to a statement from the singer’s advisory, the decision to take her to the Syrian-Lebanese was taken to ensure the continuity of the therapeutic protocol in the same hospital where she was hospitalized for about two months between December and January.
In a recent interview with Domingão with Huck, Preta said he would do a treatment outside Brazil. “We have done everything we could here. Now, my chance of healing is abroad, and that’s where I go,” he said. Days later, Flora Gil reported that there was not yet a set date for the beginning of the international stage of treatment.
Preta Gil received the diagnosis of bowel cancer in January 2023. In December of the same year, he announced the end of treatment after undergoing surgery to reconstruct part of the intestinal tract and said he would continue in the process of rehabilitation. Despite the remission of cancer, the singer explained that she would remain under observation for the next five years.
In August 2024, Preta posted an Instagram video revealing that the disease had returned in four body locations: two lymph nodes, a peritoneum metastasis and a nodule in the ureter. In December, he underwent surgery of approximately 21 hours for tumor removal and had to place a definitive colostomy bag.
