Selton Mello used social networks this Saturday (10) to tell followers that he has been smoking for three years. The actor, who played Rubens Paiva in the feature “I’m still here” – Oscar 2025 winner for best foreign film – said he felt victorious in the fight to drop the addiction. “A very big personal victory, and I speak publicly because it can inspire someone. It was 25 years smoking. Smoke a lot.”
The actor recalled the difficulties faced as soon as he decided to stop smoking: “The beginning was very difficult, desperate. A lot of anxiety, fissure… but not impossible. I started eating a lot more, I gained a lot, but I knew that after I was going to balance it. Everything was worth it,” he said.
Mello also did not hide that one of the things that most helped him to drop his cigarette was the smell: “The perception that it stinks a lot! When I saw someone smoking, I approached, to test if I would like it – and what I felt was revulsion. It really helped me!” “If you are a smoker, you smell sick. It’s no use perfume and gum, you’re impregnated.”
Finally, Mello pointed out that he has “the renewed breath” and stressed: “It was 25 years of a stinky marriage. Ah! Fade and Happy! The bastard is so sneaky, stink of evil, that would not be amazed if I smoked tomorrow! He added, “I don’t say I’m a smoker. I’ve been smoking for three years. I feel much better and believe me, it’s possible.”
