Last Saturday (17), Preta Gil used social networks to pay tribute to brother Pedro Gil, who would turn 55 years old. In an emotional text, the singer lovingly remembered the trajectory of the musician, who died young in a traffic accident.

“Today is the birthday of my late brother Peter. He is gone here on earth in 1990, but remains in me in many ways. Today I pray and celebrate the passage of my beloved Pedrão in this existence. I love you forever,” he wrote.

Pedro Gadelha Gil Moreira was Gilberto Gil’s firstborn with Sandra Gadelha. He was born in London, during the period when the singer and former Minister of Culture lived in exile, due to military repression in Brazil.

From an early age, the artist followed in his father’s footsteps and stood out as a drummer of the band Egotrip, who performed at the first Rock in Rio in 1985.

Pedro’s promising life was tragically interrupted in January 1990. The young musician, then 19, returned from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro when he fell asleep behind the wheel. The car where he was crashed into a tree and overturned several times.

The musician was rescued and taken to the ICU of Hospital Beneficência Portuguesa, but could not resist the injuries. The head trauma caused by the accident left him in a coma, and he died eight days later.
