It has been 11 years since Marcello Antony has moved away from Brazilian soap operas. His last work was in TV Globo’s “Love to Life” (2014), and the actor revealed the reasons that led him to leave the station’s productions. According to him, the refusal to participate in the soap opera “A Favorita” (2008) ended up sealing his destination in the house after two decades of partnership: “I created enmities,” he said.
Currently living in Portugal, where he acts as a luxury real estate broker, Antony detailed the confusion involving two simultaneous invitations to Globo soap operas: “The Favorite”, written by João Emanuel Carneiro and directed by Ricardo Waddington, and the remake of “Ciranda de Pedra”, signed by Alcides Nogueira, directed by Carlos Araújo, for the six.
Marcello would play Dodi, a role that ended up with Murilo Benício, but chose to live the character Daniel Prado in the plot based on the book of the same name by Lygia Fagundes Telles. “I had a meeting with Mário Lúcio Vaz (director of Central Production Globo at the time) and asked to do the soap opera of six. He replied: ‘Marcello, I’m not knowing how old at Globo. You are the first one who asks me to make six soap opera and not eight.’
According to the actor, the refusal cost him many work in the following years. “João Emanuel and Ricardo Waddington, from that moment, vetoed me everything. The egos inside buried any possibility of future invitations with them. But it is part of the game. Working with TV is managing egos. I was calmer there on the periphery, was not at the center of confusion,” he said in an interview with Veja.
Despite the distance from the recording studios, Antony stated that Top would return to soap operas as long as he went to a challenging role. “I find it difficult, because things have changed. Well, first, I depend on an invitation, right? […] Only if it were very challenging. I am moved by the challenge. If it’s challenging, we even give up some things. It became a key. “
