Frenzy for the new Swatch watch in collaboration with Omega- “Queues” in Athens

by

Frenzy prevailed over the weekend in Swatch stores around the world, as the company launched an economical version of the luxury watch Speedmaster, in collaboration with Omega.

From Melbourne to Geneva and from Hong Kong to our Hermes, “queues” of consumers waited patiently to pick up the watch created by the collaboration of the two “giants”, Swatch and Omega.

The watch is called MoonSwatch and costs about 250 euros. It’s so named because it’s almost identical in appearance to the Speedmaster Professional watch, also known as the Moon Watch, worn by American astronauts.

The prices of the authentic “moon watch” start at around 6,500 euros. The new cheaper model has already made its appearance and is resold on websites like Ebay.

According to a company spokesman, MoonSwatch watches will be widely available and their parts are limited, so consumers will have the opportunity to buy them for a long time.

This, of course, did not stop people from fighting for a watch. In Geneva, Switzerland, hundreds of people lined up around Swatch’s shop, and police were present, arresting one person.

In London, the Swatch store closed as customers nearly booked inside.

The move to launch a budget watch, with a “taste” of “luxury”, is considered unusual for Swatch, which has recently seen sales of its cheap parts decrease and its expensive ones increase.

Meanwhile, Swatch shares are now up 5.3%.
