An established summer route unfolds in the Argolic Gulf as Danish rowers leave the north for the calm waters of Tolo, on a trip that begins with paddles and ends in life friendships. Since 2011, when Antonis Gikas had the idea of linking the love of his visitors to rowing, Tolo became an official “club” in Denmark and even the largest to members.

“Someone said ‘don’t we go to Greece for a paddle?’ And everyone answered “yes, let’s go!”, “say the Danes themselves, who rowing up to 150 kilometers daily. Now, they talk about Tolo as a family destination, as their second home. Every visit is a mixture of adventure, relaxation and sincere human relationships. It all started with an idea, and became a common homeland.

Lisbet Jørgensen has only seen one corner of Greece: Tolo. And it is enough for her. She came for the rowing group, for the experience of rowing at sea, and to be with her friends. “I haven’t gone anywhere else,” he says. “I wanted to be here.” Karen Bach comes with friends, sometimes with her family and daily with the paddles 120 to 150 kilometers. None of this would have happened without Antonis Gikas since in 2011 he proposed to his Danish friends to set up a formal club in Denmark with Tolo. Today, “Tolo” is recognized as Danish’s largest rowing club in number of members.

Antonis’ relationship with the Danes is more than friendship. Peter Fauholt, who has come over 50 times, says clearly: “He’s not my friend, it’s a family.” Henrik Lakner stresses: “I come every year since 2016. The sea, the islands, are all magical.” And it is this magic that Hanne Krogsager describes: “Sun, sea, friends, rowing. Everything goes together. ” Lisbet smiles: “Here we see turtles in the water. In Denmark we do not have that. “

Relationships are simple, human, everyone enjoys food, relaxation, people, according to themselves. “The atmosphere is something else,” says Karen. Antonis Gikas is mysterious on the camera of the show “Where there is Greece”, “they adore the place. That’s why they come back again and again. “
