Preta Gil, 50, will be honored at WME Awards 2025, awards dedicated to women in the music industry in Brazil. The award is divided into three categories: popular vote, technical vote and honored by the whole of his work. This year’s ceremony takes place in December.
In 2003, Preta released his first studio album, “Prêt-Á-Porter”. The second, “Preta”, was released in 2005, with only two songs: “Very Dangerous” and “You and Mene, You and Me”. Its discography also contains “Sou As Sou”, 2012 and “All Colors”, released in 2017, as well as live recordings and DVDs.
The artist discovered bowel cancer by 2023 and is under treatment in the United States. According to the organization of the event, she presented WME Awards for seven consecutive editions. In 2023, he was newly operated when he was applauded by a standing audience as he entered the stage next to Larissa Luz.

According to her, Preta embodies the values that the award defends and wants to amplify. For Monique Dardenne, WME’s musical curator and co-founder, one of the strengths of the award is that of the honors.
