Will Smith’s mother comments on son’s assault on Chris Rock: ‘I’ve never seen him do that’

Will Smith’s mother Carolyn has spoken out about the actor’s Oscar win and the moment he slapped Chris Rock in the face.

In an interview aired on Tuesday (29), she said she was proud of her son in relation to the award. “I know how he works, how hard he works… I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting. When I heard the name, I was just, ‘Yes!'” she recalled in conversation with Philadelphia’s 6abc.

Regarding the viral moment involving Chris Rock, Carolyn suggested that her son has never been more “confrontational” than he was at that moment. “He’s a very balanced person. It’s the first time I’ve seen him leave [deste lugar]”, she said. “First time in his life… I’ve never seen him do that.”

Smith’s younger sister Ellen also reflected on what her brother has overcome to achieve status in his career. “I had conversations with him, and it kind of really broke my heart to hear the things he said he had to go through to get where he is,” she said.

Jaden Smith, 23, eldest son of Will Smith, 53, and Jada Pinkett, 50, had previously shown support for his father, who, during the 2022 Oscars ceremony, slapped actor and comedian Chris Rock in the face, 57.

“And that’s how we solve things,” he wrote in the early hours of Monday (28). Although not directly referring to the father, who won the Oscar for best actor for “King Richard: Coaching Champions”, the tweet was taken by responses with videos of the moment.

The slap came after Chris Rock joked with Will Smith’s wife, joking about her appearance by saying she looked like a character from “GI Jane 2”, who is bald. Jada suffers from alopecia, a genetic disease that leads to hair loss, and often talks about it on social media.
