Former model and actress Cristina Mortágua, 54, who stood out as a symbol of the 1990s, was admitted to a psychiatric clinic in the last days after suffering a psychotic outbreak.
The information was confirmed by family members in a statement released on social networks this Sunday (6), in which they ask for empathy, understanding and respect for the privacy of the artist at this delicate moment.
According to the published text, Cristina had a serious crisis caused by inappropriate use of medicines and had to be contained. “In recent days, Cristina has undergone a serious episode of psychotic outbreak, during which she ended up acting uncontrolled, emotionally and physically injuring people, including family members, neighbors and friends,” the statement says. “Unfortunately, there was also misuse of medicines, which aggravated their state of consciousness and behavior.”
The family states that hospitalization was a difficult but necessary measure. “We know that attitudes taken at this moment do not reflect who this person really is, but the effects of a mental health condition that requires specialized attention, care and treatment,” the text adds. “We are prioritizing your recovery with all the affection and responsibility.”
At the end of the message, family members reinforce the request for solidarity. “We ask for empathy and respect for the privacy of all involved. We are confident that with proper treatment it can reestablish and resume your life in a healthy and balanced way.”
The concern with the health status of the former model increased when she published an outburst on social networks asking for help. “I was expelled from home and have no strength to carry my bags. I’m not holding on. By chance someone has $ 110 plus $ 40, for God’s sake, so I can rest and leave early tomorrow? My foot is cut,” he wrote in one of the posts.
Cristina lived with her mother in Rio de Janeiro. In other messages, he even implied family conflicts and mentioned that he was in a situation of intense psychological suffering. “I need to get out of here, otherwise I’m going crazy or I will make my life,” he said in one of the posts, which worried his followers.
