Alkis Downward, originally from Athens and British roots, chose to change life path and return to the place where he marked his childhood summers, Paros. Although he studied Political Science at the renowned University of George, USA, urban daily life was unable to keep him away from the land he loved.
He now lives in the poplars of Paros, where he cultivates organic products in the family estate. A place full of olives, vines, figs and herbs, turning its nostalgia for Paros into a way of life and practice of creation.
When the island identity meets modern design
Since 2016, when the “not scared boats” program launched in collaboration with the barren line of fertile line, the artist Christian Economou lives and creates in the Little Cyclades, giving new life to abandoned wooden works. The beginning was in Schinoussa with “Little Elias”, continued in Heraklia with “Captain Giannis”, and in Koufonissi, where “Mrs Sophia” was resurrected.
“All we see is the sea” was born of the love of the artist for the Cyclades and boats. She moved to Schinoussa and transferred there the knowledge and inspiration she gained during her master’s degree, giving shape to a creative language that unites art with authentic island life. Viral, inspired by island Greece, are imprinted on t-shirts wearing many young people!
For years it has been renovated traditional boats and actively participates in the “Company” group, offering, along with doctors and volunteer medical care in the remote Aegean islands. T -shirts that write “all weather” or “what are you?” That she creates are pieces of a modern, handmade narrative about how tradition can meet graphic, design and social offer.
