Preta Gil: Rio will have closed streets this Thursday for the procession and wake of the singer

The City of Rio de Janeiro will start closing streets around the municipal theater as of Thursday (24), due to the procession and wake of the singer Preta Gil, which takes place on Friday (25). The ceremony will be open to the public from 9am to 1pm.

According to the schedule, it will be forbidden to park and travel throughout the Avenida Treze de Maio from 19h this Thursday. The ban runs until 6 pm on Friday.

From Friday, cars will not be able to park on Araújo Porto Alegre streets and Avenida Evaristo da Veiga, between Senador Dantas Street and Rio Branco Avenue.

There will also be complete traffic interdictions on the streets Manoel de Carvalho and Araújo Porto Alegre.

Agents of the Secretariat of Public Order and the Municipal Guard will act in operational support and will order the surroundings and organization of the line for the wake.

The procession with the black body in the Fire Department car will go through the route that recently gained its name: the Circuit of Black Street Carnival Blocks Gil.

In addition, several police and monitoring teams will work in the region and during the course between the municipal theater and the Penance Cemetery in Cashew.

The body of the singer arrived, at dawn on Thursday (24), to Brazil, by Guarulhos Airport, in São Paulo. Now he goes to Rio de Janeiro.

The flight departed on Wednesday night (23), from New York, where the 50 -year -old singer died after a period in search of treatment for colorectal cancer she discovered in January 2023. Since then, the family has been taking care of body repatriation, her father Gilberto Gil said.
