The writer, artist, poet and artisan Jacira Roque de Oliveira, known as Dona Jacira, died on Monday (28), at 60, in São Paulo. Mother of the musicians Emicida and Evandro Fióti, as well as Katia and Katiane, she was hospitalized in the state capital. The cause of death was not disclosed, but Jacira had lived for decades with lupus and had been hemodialysis for over 25 years.
The information was confirmed by the advisory services of Emicida and Fióti to F5. In an official note, the family lamented the loss and exalted the legacy left by Dona Jacira: “It is with deep sadness that we inform the death of Jacira Roque de Oliveira, Dona Jacira, at 60 years old. Dona Jacira was a woman with ancestral survival and resistance technologies that built a huge legacy for the arts and for Afro-Brazilian culture.”
The statement also thanks the public’s affection and respects the privacy of the family at this time of mourning.
Figure of great cultural and social expression, Dona Jacira published books, participated in conversation wheels and used social networks to discuss topics such as ancestry, spirituality and justice.
In April this year, she publicly spoke out in defense of her son Fióti, after the break between him and Emicida in the management of the ghost lab, label and company founded by the two brothers. The end of the partnership culminated in a legal dispute at the 2nd Business Court and arbitration conflicts in São Paulo, involving about $ 6 million.
At the time, Dona Jacira posted a message in support of Fióti: “The hyenas are around us, they want our fall. But they will not. […] The curse thrown into the form of slander must be removed. Through the mouth that launched it. Before it’s late. “
Days later, the fight between Emicida and Fióti had a friendly outcome. The São Paulo Court of Justice temporarily suspended the lawsuit between the two and determined a secret of justice. The suspension of the process was requested by the brothers themselves and occurred so that they can negotiate an agreement. Confidentiality was also determined because the dispute between the brothers involved family cases and because they were public people and attracted the attention of the media.
