Anitta’s visit to the Kuikuro village, in the Xingu Indigenous Park (MT), to record a Domingão Special with Huck, triggered controversy on social networks. At the time, the singer attended the Quarup, a funeral ceremony that pays tribute to the deceased, but was criticized by indigenous activist Ysani Kalapalo, who classified her presence as a “disrespect” to the ritual.
In a video published on her networks, the indigenous stated that the artist did not follow the expected tradition during ritual dance. “She had to be painted with the whole body and also without any clothes, only with props. The fact that she is in clothes dancing Quarup already disrespects the ritual,” he said.
Ysani, with over 120,000 followers on social networks and 800,000 on YouTube, also accused Anitta of using the indigenous cause as self -promotion. “We know very well that Anitta does not collaborate practically nothing with the progress of indigenous peoples. Her speech is just searcation. Who really defends nature are the indigenous.”
In another part of a video, the activist questions what she called the singer’s “crooked ideologies”. “There are very crooked ideologies. Defends socialism, but lives capitalist life, in luxury. It is a millionaire. That is: luxury for me and poverty for you. A type of human being who does not appreciate,” he says.
Anitta responded to criticism of publication on social networks, noting that his trip to Xingu occurred at the invitation of indigenous leaders and organizations linked to the cause. “I closely experienced the Quarup, a ritual that celebrates the memory and trajectory of those who have already made the passage. In addition, I had the honor of knowing Chief Raoni, this man who dedicates years of his life to the defense of the forest, the protection of indigenous territories and the future of humanity,” he wrote.
The artist also highlighted the historical role of the original peoples in the preservation of Brazilian forests and drew attention to the need to support them as guardians of nature.
Ysani Kalapalo is an indigenous activist who accumulates more than 800,000 youtube subscribers and 120,000 followers on social networks. In 2019, he spoke at the UN General Assembly in New York at the invitation of then President Jair Bolsonaro. She also participated in the second season of the reality show The Great Conquest, Record.
