The actress was born in Los Angeles in 1946 under the name Diana Hall and was the older than four children. Her father was a civil engineer, and her mother was a housewife.

In high school she participated in theatrical performances and, after graduation in 1964, studied acting, though she soon abandoned her studies to move to New York and deal with theater. She adopted her mother’s surname, Quiton, as there was already a Diane Hall in Actors’ Equity.

In 1968 he took a role as a deputy in the Hair show in Broadway. He later revealed that at that time he was fighting with bulimia, after the director’s observation that he had to lose weight. “It was a mental illness … I lived hidden, trying not to understand me,” he said.
