David Byrne – Damon Albarn: Why the two artists are musical geniuses

David Byrne created Talking Heads in the mid -1970s, an experimental new wave / post punk band, at a time when the Americans fought to approach the pioneers in the alternative music industry, British. His collaboration with Brian Eno is special at the Everything That Happens Will Happen Today (2008), an album that creatively reconnected the duo after My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (1981). Byrne also collaborated with artists such as St. Vincent in Love This Giant (2012), where guitars, voices and winds combined in an original art pop mix. In recent years, he stood out with the project and the American Utopia show, which emerged as an international artistic phenomenon.

On June 25, 2026, the other musical genius, Damon Albarn, will be “introduced” to the Greek public – with a long delay the truth is – as a frontman of Gorillaz, a fiction band of four gorillas, with millions of friends all over the globe. Albarn, of course, when he was singing that the Greek beaches were a mess and call the police and when all the boys were playing electronic football under the sounds of Song2, Gorillaz had not yet been scattered. He was just the singer of another huge and world -renowned Blur band, at a time when Britpop (in the 90’s) was superfluous, super fashion!
And what did Albarn do in his spare time, somewhere there in the late 1990s? He decided to create another band, playing different music and consists not of people, but by cartoon gorillas! And this band not only swept the global music industry, but it has broken every record in Spotify and YouTube, creating a large community of four humanoid friends.
