The testimony of actor Johnny Depp, 58, was heavily questioned on Thursday (21) by lawyers for Amber Heard, 35, in a court in Virginia, in the United States, who scrutinized his relationship with drugs and alcohol during the trial. for defamation that the actor brings against his ex-wife.
At the center of the discussions was a scar on Depp’s finger that dates back to March 2015, when he was filming the fifth part of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga. “I cut my middle finger,” Depp wrote to his doctor in a message read in court by Ben Rottenborn, Heard’s attorney.
However, the actor had claimed the day before that his injury had been caused by Heard during one of their many arguments. “She came up to me and took the bottle of vodka. She backed up and threw it at me,” Depp had reported, mimicking the scene.
He then explained that he used his own blood as ink to write on the walls of the village where the couple were staying. On Thursday afternoon, the third day of depositions, photos of mirrors and furniture covered in red and black letters were shown in court.
Married for two years, the ex-couple accuses each other of defamation during the trial, broadcast partly by news channels, which has its origins in an editorial Heard wrote in 2018.
In this text published by The Washington Post , the actress does not mention Johnny Depp by name, but refers to the domestic violence allegations she made against her husband in 2016.
“LET’S BURN AMBER”
At the start of Thursday’s hearing, Heard’s lawyers presented in court text messages with violent content that Johnny Depp exchanged with family members, although without providing context.
“I don’t want to see that filthy bitch Amber again,” Depp wrote to a friend in April 2015, two months after they were married.
His ex-wife’s lawyers began their interrogation by reading a series of messages the actor exchanged over the years with various contacts, without giving further details about who he had spoken to and the date of the text messages.
“Let’s burn Amber,” read Ben Rottenborn. “You said, ‘I’m going to fuck her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.'”
“That’s what you said you would do after you burned her and after you drowned her,” said the lawyer when forwarding the message sent in 2013 by the actor to one of his friends.
Throughout his testimony, the actor’s alcohol and drug abuse was also extensively detailed by Heard’s lawyers, who, also present in court, had kept an impassive face.
Dressed in a dark suit and black shirt, Depp admitted to using these substances but denied any excess.
Recalling an experience with singer Marilyn Manson, the actor said the two men had “drank” and “used cocaine together maybe a few times”, adding that he once “gave the rocker a pill” to make him “stop talking” so much”.
On Wednesday (20), the actor assured that he had lost “everything” due to his ex-wife’s accusations of violence, trying to convince the jury that it was she, on the contrary, who was assaulting him.
