Exhaustion: Signs that “shout” burn out – What to do

by

A recent post by Tina Vasquez on Twitter raised the question: “We all face exhaustion and can’t concentrate on basic tasks, right?”

The post, with over 54,000 likes and 5,000 retweets constantly growing, received hundreds of responses from people around the world.

One of them noted about reading after the pandemic, writing: “I could not read a novel after 2019”. Another agreed to this common struggle. “I was an avid reader. Now, I have borrowed and returned dozens of books in the last 18 months without going over the first page. “I just can’t concentrate.”

In the responses, people shared tasks that are now difficult to complete, ranging from washing clothes and moving house to completing the cycle of their favorite series. “I have to put a washing machine for 2 weeks. “I have to wash my clothes,” one wrote, while another tweeted: “I try to pack my bags and move, but my inability to concentrate is overwhelming.”

“I pushed my car aside this morning to answer a call for five minutes and then sat there for another hour,” said another, adding with sarcasm, “I’m not sure if I had the radio on.”

As people continued to share their effort to cope with daily tasks, the thread brought to light something we almost already knew. Many spend their lives with feelings of exhaustion without recognizing the real impact that all of this has on their daily lives and without seeking treatment.

“I’m stupid,” one user wrote. “Everything sucks and we go to work and act like nothing happened? I’m in autopilot because if I think about it I want to cry. “

There is no doubt that the feeling of exhaustion and burn out symptoms is something that many people face that they often do not recognize as our attention is distracted from our daily responsibilities.

The thread underlined that there is a discussion that needs to be done to recognize what we really feel and how our emotions can ultimately positively and negatively affect our daily lives. And certainly there are many of us in this.

“I’m glad to hear that I’m not alone in this,” said one Twitter user, “and this is something we can all agree on.” If you notice symptoms such as:

1. Physical symptoms: chronic fatigue, back and neck pain, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, ulcers, cardiovascular disease, migraines.

2. Behavior changes: tendency to isolation, faceless communication, addressing others with derogatory phrases, conflicts with co-workers and family members, and even suicide attempts

3 .Psychological effects: anger, boredom, frustration, discouragement, indifference, low self-esteem and self-esteem, depression.

Seek help from your doctor to guide you and possibly refer you to a mental health counselor.
