Affiliated with PSOL since May 2020, presenter and chef Bela Gil, 34, gave up on running for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo. “These elections are going to be very violent, I thought it best to wait,” she told F5.
Bela is engaged in the campaign of ex-president Lula (PT) and hosted a lunch last February around PT and his fiancee, sociologist Rosângela da Silva, Janja. Specialists and representatives of social movements participated in the meeting. The subject on the agenda was, basically, food and hunger in the country.
The presenter is on the guest list for Lula and Janja’s wedding, on the 18th, in São Paulo, and does not fear cancellation. She often takes a direct stand against the government of Jair Bolsonaro – often with humor.
”We can replace Bolsonaro with anything”, he jokes, referring to the phrase that became a meme in 2016, when he prepared a barbecue on TV and exchanged meat for watermelon. This time, he added: “It could be for anything, but if it’s Lula, it’s more appropriate,” says the chef, one of the founders of the Food and Culture Institute, which aims to train educators so they can help children to reconnect to food.
