On the screen of the largest music documentary festival in the worldτου In-Edit meet this year, o Nick Cave with Laurent Garnier, the Beatles with Billie Holiday and veteran rebetes with virtuoso jazz musicians. The festival that starts today in Thessaloniki and will last until May 11 includes in this year’s program great musical documentaries.

Since its first event in Barcelona, in 2003, until today, In-Edit has traveled to dozens of cities around the world, presenting the most important stories from behind the scenes of music, while this year, it returns to Thessaloniki and presents once again, in Warehouse D ‘, in the Port of the city, unique music stories both on screen and off it.

The curtain opens with the Haarlem Cultural Festivalone of the largest music festivals in American history and with the award-winning documentary Summer of Soul that takes the viewer to the summer “where blacks died and blacks were born”.

In the documentary The Beatles and India, the Beatles embark on a journey of creation and the pursuit of spiritual bliss in Indiawhile Max Richter, one of the most charismatic composers of the 21st century, presents his work, Sleep, a very personal work-manifesto for a slower pace of existence and a personal exploration of how music interacts with consciousness.

In the journey of music and documentary, Moby, with his ecstatic and surreal sound, leads viewers and listeners in search of the perfect human happiness which for him was deeply dark, but also fruitful, while in a-ha: The Movie, he emerges the provocative, creative and special dynamic of the most popular Norwegian band, resulting in a story of great music, great ambitions, broken kisses – and perhaps forgiveness.

The program also includes the documentary – concert New Order: Decades, with Liam Gillick and 12 different synthesizers in isolated cells, with the same intensity that Laurent Garnier tries, secretly entering, as a minor, in disco nightclubs, to find himself behind the consoles, chasing his passion for communication with the world, through dance music.

Intensein this year’s program of the festival is also the female presence as Billie Holiday, Sinéad OConnor, Patti Smith and Sirens from Lebanon, will tell in a special way some of the most exciting musical stories.

Recognizing, after all, the need to strengthen Greek film production, In-Edit presents some of the best Greek music documentaries of recent years while also designing a Greek competition section of short music films. From the Greek mountains to emblematic scenes of the BBC, in the documentary Dimitris Skyllas: AFTERPOP, Dimitris Zivopoulos follows the 35-year-old provocateur composer Dimitris Skyllas and reveals the secrets of his music creation today. Giannis Kolaxizis and Dimitris Papadopoulos follow the opposite course, telling the story of Nat Bertzal, one of the most important representatives of the British jazz scene. Wandering on the music map of Greece continues with a guide Nikos Skarentzo and a group of musicians who travel to Syros to participate in a tribute in honor of Markos Vamvakaris.

In the year of his great return, the In-Edit 2022 Thessaloniki Edition secures for its audience the first world premiere of the new music documentary about Nick Cave. This much I know to be true, as part of a unique global event, which will take place on May 11, in over 300 theaters around the world and will be the closing film of the festival.

The event is being implemented with the communication support of the Film Office of the Region of Central Macedonia while his return to the city of Thessaloniki is supported by the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, the Hellenic Cinema Center and the Film Office of the Region of Central Macedonia.
