On the occasion of Europe Day and Proclamation of 2022 as the European Year of Youth, the Office of the European Parliament and the Delegation of the European Commission to Greece organize 7 and 8 May at European Youth Dayswith a variety of actions in Elefsina and Zappeion.
Elefsina, Saturday, May 7, 13: 00-22: 30 – Democracy and Culture
The Office of the European Parliament, the Delegation of the European Commission to Greece and 2023 Elefsina European Capital of Culture co-organize a series of events in Elefsina focusing on culture and democracy in today’s Europe. Young people from all over Attica are invited to meet young people in the area and participate in many different activities.
Indicatively, the program of events includes parallel discussions among young people on the topics of culture and innovation, democracy, climate change and sustainable cities and migration coordinated by Dina Dziora (Cultural Manager, Athens Comics Library), Vangelis Kravvariti (Education and Society Programs Manager British Council), Giannis Pantazopoulos (Journalist) and Menelaou Karamaggiolis (director, producer, screenwriter). A central discussion will follow, with: Eva Kailis (EC Vice-President), Costas Arvanitis (MEP, The Left), Michael Marmarino (Director, General Artistic Director, 2023 Elefsina European Capital of Culture), Thomas Vaxitiras (Archbishop) Legal President of Animasyros), coordinated by journalist Nora Ralli. The Mayor of Elefsina Argyris Oikonomou, the Head of the Office of the European Parliament in Greece Konstantinos Tsoutsoplidis, the Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Greece Niovi Rigou and the Chairman of the Board will address a greeting. 2023 Elefsina Cultural Capital Despina Geroulanou.
The parallel activities include, among others, a walk in the city of Elefsina, the painting exhibition “Peace Bows” in collaboration with the Children’s Gallery of Greece, screening of the animation movie that was distinguished in a competition of the EP Office in Greece and Animasyros, but also Nominated for the LUX 2022 Audience Award, Great Freedom, an original workshop entitled “Print your City” by The New Raw and “Words of the Clock” starring Roula Pateraki. Zappeion, Sunday 8 May, 12: 00-20: 00 – Employment and business activity
The Delegation of the European Commission and the Office of the European Parliament in Greece are co-organizing an event in Zappeion on employment and entrepreneurship. Embassies of the member states of the European Union and bodies such as Erasmus, Creative Europe, D.Y.P.A. (formerly OAED), Civis, GSEE Labor Institute, EPISEV, Europe Direct Information Centers (Europe Direct) will provide information on study, employment, volunteering and foreign language learning opportunities. Co-financed European programs will also be presented. The event is addressed to young people, but also to all those who are interested in being active in the relevant fields.
Welcoming remarks will be made by the Head of the European Commission Delegation to Greece Niovi Rigou, the Head of the European Parliament Office in Greece Konstantinos Tsoutsoplidis, the Secretary General for Lifelong Learning of the Ministry of Education George Voutsinos and the Director General for Education , Sports and Culture (DG EAC) Themis Christofidou.
European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schoinas, responsible for promoting the European way of life, and Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis will attend the event to talk and discuss challenges and opportunities in Europe and Greece.
Admission is free for the public and priority will be given. Appointment in Elefsina and Zappeion, on the 7th and 8th of May!
