This is how we often identify various locations in Epirus, neighborhoods and even entire villages that are next to ours.
Other times as far as mahalas, other times as upper mahalas or lower mahalas etc.
This is how we understand the perhaps most famous villages of Zagori, Mikro and Megalo Papigo, which travels to Up Stories. As two different mahalades that if you have visited them or you intend to do then you will surely be enchanted by their unique and inconceivable beauty and you will feel like the King of the whole Epirus.
A few words about the Small and Big Papigo
The traditional settlements of Papigo and Mikro Papigo in West Zagori are two of the most beautiful and most touristic destinations in this particular area of Epirus. Whatever season you visit Papigo you will be impressed by the wild natural landscape and the traditional architecture with the use of stone by the famous craftsmen of Zagori. Walk on the narrow cobbled streets and enjoy the smells and the view of the rare natural landscape.
The Access to Papigo
To reach Papigo you have to travel 63 km from Ioannina, about 345 km from Thessaloniki via Egnatia Odos and 485 km from Athens passing through the bridge of Rio Antirrio. Arriving in Papigo, park your car in the first parking lot and start your wandering in the village.
The swimming pools
During your visit to Papigo, do not forget to visit the swimming pools that are located on the route between Papigo and Mikro Papigo (with a length of about 2 km). The swimming pools are an impressive stone geological formation in which you will find small natural pools (pedestals) with crystal clear waters which, in fact, during the summer months, many prefer for a cool to cold we would say dive!
