Mônica Bergamo: Suicide among civil police officers in SP exceeds deaths in actions in the last decade, says union

The number of civil police officers in the state of São Paulo who committed suicide exceeds the rate of those killed on duty in the last ten years. The data are from the most recent survey carried out by Sindpesp (Sindicato dos Delegados de Polícia do Estado de SP).

PANORAMA

While 33 professionals died in actions, 68 agents took their own lives within the analyzed period – more than double. The study was based on data from the SSP (Secretariat of Public Security). They comprise the period between 2012 and March 2022.

WHO

The largest number of professionals who committed suicide were investigators. There were 28 deaths in ten years. Next are police officers (11), delegates (7), clerks (7) and jailers (6). This year, two cases have already been recorded. In 2021, there were ten. The previous year, eight, compared to seven in 2019.

ROAD

Until March 2022, one case of a police officer killed on duty was recorded. In 2020 and 2021, the level was the same: four agents died in action.

The publication of the study marks the departure of the president of Sindpesp, Raquel Gallinati, who will leave the post on Thursday (2) to launch herself as a candidate for state deputy for the PL.

Maria da Conceição Feitosa, aka Doninha, turned 90 last month at a party that also celebrated the 70th birthday of lawyer Guiomar Mendes, her daughter, and the 50th birthday of granddaughter Ketlin Feitosa Scartezini. Guiomar’s husband, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Gilmar Mendes attended the celebration, which was held at Fazenda Boísa, in Ceará. Former senator Chiquinho Feitosa (DEM-CE) and his wife, Fernanda Souza, were there.
