New growth trends are observed in Samos, Grevena, Evritania, Heraklion, Preveza, Chania, Arta and Evros, as stated in the information about the coronavirus by the Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Committee of Experts Vana Papaevangelou.

Ms. Papaevangelou stressed that despite any stabilization in the new cases, with the large dispersion, the pressure on the NSS will continue and we will be late to see a decline in deaths. He also said that the exponential increase has been stopped for the last 10 days.

There are 54,000 active cases and mortality in areas with a high rate of unvaccinated elderly is quite high.

At the same time, in the ICU covid in the territory the occupancy is at 88%, after an increase of the beds.

On the positive side, however, vaccinations have increased, but efforts to persuade more people must continue. The new vaccinations mainly concern people under the age of 60.

Since the beginning of the 4th wave, ie since the beginning of September, 84 people under the age of 60 have died and without underlying diseases, the professor said characteristically. Also, regarding the hospitalizations in children, the teacher said that they are stable. “It simply came to our notice then. “Young children in particular are mildly ill.”

He pointed out that to date, more than 7.5 billion vaccinations have been given worldwide, so “the vaccine is neither new nor experimental.”

According to some researchers, in the future the third dose may no longer be considered a booster, but part of the basic vaccination.

Regarding Christmas, he said that ECDC experts believe that the epidemiological burden will be high, especially in countries with low vaccination coverage. She stressed that we will not return to last Christmas, but it is still early to talk about it.

Finally, he said that vaccinated people, even if they get infected, remain contagious for a significantly shorter period of time and therefore participate to a lesser extent in the spread of the virus in the community.
