Opinion – Julio Abramczyk: Put on the mask

by

We are on the eve of the 26th edition of the São Paulo LGBT Pride Parade, with the traditional parade on Avenida Paulista taking place next Sunday (19).

The parade has been going on for 25 years, with the exception of the last two, when it was suspended by the pandemic. In times of a pandemic, people who have not received the appropriate doses of vaccines can be involved in health risks by participating in this extraordinary group of happy people.

After a period of regression of cases admitted to the private network, data from the Private Hospitals Union report that almost half of them currently have an occupancy rate above 80%. In the hospitals of the municipal network of São Paulo, official data from Wednesday (15) indicate that 136 people were hospitalized in the Covid-19 ICU and 201 people, in the previous 24 hours, in infirmary beds.

These data suggest that the return of patients to hospitals is related to the virus that is very present in our environment. The vaccination campaign continues and must be used. Thus, with the Parade and without the necessary personal care and vaccination, its incidence will increase.

Among the recommended precautions, there is the most abandoned, simplest and most appropriate for controlling the transmission of the virus in a large part of the population: the use of a face mask. If a neighbor of yours refuses to wear the mask, research shows that if only you wear it, you will be effectively protected.
