Brazil registers 94 deaths from Covid and continues to grow in the average number of deaths

by

Brazil recorded 94 deaths from Covid this Saturday (18). With this, the country has a moving average of 133 deaths from the disease, representing an increase of 66% compared to the data of two weeks ago.

The country has been experiencing an increase in the average number of deaths in recent days. On June 9, Brazil had registered a percentage that indicated stability (ie, without variations greater than 15%) in relation to the data of two weeks ago. Soon after, on June 10, there was a 27% increase in the average number of deaths.

Since then, a gradual increase has been observed, reaching the rate of 66% this Saturday. This percentage is the highest since February 11, when the country had a 68% increase in the average number of deaths.

Regarding new cases, Brazil recorded 19,810 infections by Sars-CoV-2 in the last 24 hours. Now, the country has a moving average of cases of 34,477. There was a 17% increase from the data from two weeks ago.

With this Saturday’s information, Brazil has lost 669,062 lives and 31,691,009 people infected by Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between Sheet, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disclose the numbers related to the new coronavirus pandemic. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the State Health Departments.

The consortium of press vehicles stopped updating the numbers of vaccinated against Covid-19 on weekends and holidays. On working days, the data will be updated normally. The measure aims to avoid inaccuracies in the numbers provided to the reader.

The change is due to problems in the consolidation of vaccination data by state departments. Several states no longer update the total number of vaccinated on weekends and holidays, and even those that do sometimes report outdated numbers, which do not correspond to reality and are usually corrected in the following days.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
