Increased viral load in sewage – In the “red” Chania, Volos, Larissa, Thessaloniki, Xanthi

Increasing trends in the mean weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 to urban wastewater in 10 of the 11 areas which were checked by the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology (EDEL) of EODY, were observed during the week June 13-19, in relation to the week 6 -12 June. Stabilization was recorded only in one of the 11 regions.

It is noted that on Tuesday an explosion was recorded in the new laboratory confirmed cases of the disease in the last 24 hours, as the 20,084.

In particular, purely upward trends were the trends in the average weekly viral load of urban wastewater in Chania (+ 145%), in Volos (+ 107%), in Larissa (+ 101%), in Thessaloniki (+ 100%), in Xanthi (+ 97%), in Attica (+ 66%), in Alexandroupolis (+ 43%), in Heraklion (+ 42%), in Agios Nikolaos (+ 37%) and in Ioannina (+ 35%). The viral load in Patras remained stable (+ 3%).

Region of Attica: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, the average weekly viral load in the urban wastewater of the Attica Region showed an increasing trend, with a statistically significant change (+ 66%) of the weekly average compared to the previous week, 13-19 / 06/2022. In recent weeks, the viral load has shown a gradual increase which peaked in the last week, mainly due to the release of variants BA.4 and BA.5.

Thessaloniki: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban wastewater in Thessaloniki showed a significant increase (+ 100%) compared to the previous week, 13-19 / 06/2022. Based on the data of the last month, it is estimated that the viral load in the city of Thessaloniki doubles every six days.
Larissa: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, there was a significant increase (+ 101%) in the levels of viral load in Larissa compared to the week 13-19 / 06/2022. 9

Marble: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, there was a significant increase (+ 107%) in the levels of viral load in Volos compared to the week 13-19 / 06/2022.

Blonde: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, there was a significant increase (+ 97%) in the levels of viral load in Xanthi compared to the week 13-19 / 06/2022.

Alexandroupoli: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, there was an increase (+ 43%) in the levels of viral load in Alexandroupolis compared to the week 13-19 / 06/2022.

Patras: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, in Patras, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban wastewater showed stability (+ 3%) compared to the previous week 14-19 / 06/22. The weekly average of the viral load is relatively high.

Heraklion: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/22, in the city of Heraklion, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban wastewater showed an increase (+ 42%) compared to the previous week, 13-19 / 06/2022. It should be noted that after the downward trend that was observed in the period from 02-29 / 05/2022, the viral load of urban wastewater shows an increasing trend in June.

Chania: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, in the city of Chania, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban wastewater showed a significant increase (+ 145%) compared to the previous week, 13-19 / 06/2022.

Saint Nicholas: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022, in the city of Agios Nikolaos, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban wastewater showed an increase (+ 37%) compared to the last week, 13-19 / 06/2022.

Janina: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022 in Ioannina, the weekly average value of the viral load of urban wastewater showed an increase (+ 35%) compared to the previous week, 13-19 / 06/2022.

Corfu: In the last week, 20-26 / 06/2022 in the city of Corfu, a viral load was detected in the urban wastewater. Due to the previous maintenance work and the absence of measurements from the week 13-19 / 06/2022, it is not possible to calculate the weekly percentage change of the viral load. Comparative results and trends will be given again from next week.
