Another gene has been discovered that increases the risk of Alzheimer’s, especially in women

About 60% of people of European descent with Alzheimer’s have this gene variant in their DNA.

Scientists at USA they located one more gene which increases the risk of occurrence Alzheimer’s in women and which probably explains in part why the disease is more common in them than in men.

Alzheimer’s is a progressively worsening neurodegenerative disease, which is the most common cause of dementia. So far, some have been found Genetic factors which increase the risk of developing the disease, with the APOE e4 gene being the best known in people over 65 years of age. About 60% of people of European descent with Alzheimer’s have this gene variant in their DNAcompared to 26% in the general population, which shows that the disease has a specific genetic background.

THE new study, published in the journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia “Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association” by researchers at the medical schools of the universities of Chicago and Boston, has identified a new gene, MGMT, which increases the risk of Alzheimer’s in women but much less in men. Further research will study why there is this difference between the sexes.
