The Undersecretaries of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias and Minister of Interior, responsible for Macedonia and Thrace Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, announced today, Friday 1 July 2022, the concession of part of the former “KARATASIOU” Camp to the Ministry of Health for the construction of the new Ministry of Health. Hospital, during an information meeting held at the Headquarters in Thessaloniki, in the presence of the Secretary General of Health Services Mr. Ioannis Kotsiopoulos.
After the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Interior, responsible for Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, stressed:
“The first step for the creation of a new Oncology Hospital in Thessaloniki is a fact. After persistent searches for suitable space, the most suitable solution was found. I thank, among others, the National Defense Fund (TEF) for its offer. It was decided to create the new hospital in the former “KARATASIOU” Camp.
The aging Theagenio, which has offered so much to Public Health, will be replaced by a state-of-the-art hospital, which will offer quality health services to thousands of people from Thessaloniki, Northern Greece and beyond. “The commitment of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will become a reality.”

It is with great pleasure that I am today pleased to announce the location of the new Oncology Hospital of Thessaloniki, in an area within the former “KARATASIOU” Camp, opposite the “PAPAGEORGIOU” Hospital and the 424 General Military Hospital, which is our , the springboard for the creation of a model health park for the whole of Northern Greece.
The new Oncology Hospital was a commitment of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, from the podium of the 85th Thessaloniki International Fair in September 2021, and will now become a reality. The area of ​​the former “KARATASIOU” Camp, in the Municipality of Pavlos Melas, in western Thessaloniki, ideally serves its optimal location, as the area offers easy access, networks and other necessary urban infrastructure, while at the same time has a sufficient parking space for all vehicles. and its visitors.
The new Cancer Unit, with its integration in the National Health System, will be a modern, pioneering and innovative structure, designed to operate in accordance with all international health standards, while providing high quality medical and nursing services to patients with neoplastic diseases and malignancies. blood diseases, practically serving not only the residents of Thessaloniki, but patients from all over Northern Greece.
