Corona virus: 73,710 cases and 258 deaths in the week of August 8-14

In the reporting week, 73,710 cases of COVID-19 were recorded (7,065 per million population: -27% weekly change) of which reinfections account for 21% of infections. The total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic amounts to 4,654,737 of which 51.9% are women. 2The 𝑅𝑡 for the territory based on cases is estimated at 0.91.

The total number of admissions to the territory’s hospitals in the reference week was 1,952 patients (7-month period: 279, -17% weekly change), while the total number of discharges amounted to 2,072 patients (7-month period: 296, -6% weekly change). The number of intubated patients by the end of the reference week is 118 (62.7% men) with a median age of 69 years and 94.9% having an underlying disease and/or age of 70 years or older.

In the reporting week, 258 deaths were recorded, while a total of 32,028 have been recorded.

Samples tested: In the reporting week, the positivity rate was 12.12% in a total of 607,996 laboratory tests (RT-PCR/Rapid-Ag) with a seven-day average of 86,857 samples (-17% weekly change).

From January 1, 2020 to August 14, 2022, in the laboratories that carry out tests for SARS-CoV-2 and that systematically declare all the samples they test, a total of 12,209,258 have been tested (7-month AD: 9,484, -13 % weekly change) clinical samples while 78,447,655 samples have been tested from Health Units and Levels of the EODY that carry out Rapid Ag tests (7-month AD: 77,372, -17% weekly change).

EODY Mass Sampling: In the reporting week, 811 sample control actions were carried out by the Mobile Health Teams (COMY) of EODY, in which 80,434 Rapid Ag tests were carried out and 13,717 positives were found (17%)
