Monica Bergamo: Demand for monkeypox tests triples in one month, says manufacturer

The demand for PCR tests for monkeypox in July this year was three times greater than in the previous month in Brazil, according to a survey by producer Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The company, which manufactures the test that detects the pathogen, sells the product to about 20 national laboratories. In São Paulo, which corresponds to almost 30% of the country’s total demand, growth was significantly higher: demand increased six times in the analyzed period.

The situation in Brazil follows the world scenario: the pace of global demand, according to the producer, grew more than tenfold between June and July this year.
