by

Everything is ready for the start of the treatments with monoclonal antibodies and in the regional hospitals, the Deputy Minister Mina Gaga announced on Friday during her tour in hospitals of Northern Greece. At the same time, he stated that the hospitals in the region are under pressure because they continue to treat thousands of non-Covid cases, typically stating that last month alone, the hospitals of the 4th RAE treated almost 17,000 non-Covid patients.

Ms. Gaga’s tour started on Thursday from the General Hospital “Agios Dimitrios” in Thessaloniki. Ms. Gaga visited the new Intensive Care Unit, which was developed with a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and has three fully developed beds for non Covid cases, as well as the Covid ICU with a capacity of 8 beds. He was also given a tour of the premises of the new CT scanner and had the opportunity to discuss with the executives of all the services of the hospital about the operational issues.

Asked about the lack of anesthesiologists, he said that from now on the positions required per specialty will be defined to meet the needs, so that gradually any gaps will disappear nationwide.

The Deputy Minister then visited the Mamatsio General Hospital of Kozani and the Bodosakeio General Hospital of Ptolemaida, where she had successive meetings with the administrations, doctors and nurses of the hospitals and the president of the Medical Association.

Among other things, he praised the cooperation between departments and services and the significant effort made to care for all patients.

According to Ms. Gaga, the resources provided by the Recovery and Resilience Fund can be used to improve building infrastructure, and even to build new hospital units. He also said that steps are being taken to fill any vacancies in key departments, either by new recruitments or by moving doctors from other areas.
