Vaccinations with the updated bivalent vaccines against the coronavirus, which also include the Omicron variant (BA.1, BA.4/BA.5) are in progress and are given exclusively as a booster dose.

According to the available data, 806,110 2nd booster and 3rd booster vaccinations have been carried out to date. Specifically, 690,124 vaccinations have been carried out in citizens over 60, for whom there is also a strong recommendation from the National Vaccination Committee, i.e. 22.5% of this age group has been vaccinated.

In particular, with the updated Pfizer BA1 vaccines, 58,860 booster vaccinations have been carried out, Pfizer BA4/5, 193,223 booster vaccinations have been carried out, while there are 69,784 future appointments.

The recommendations of the National Immunization Committee for the administration of a booster dose with the updated bivalent vaccines are as follows:

Prior to administration of the updated bivalent vaccine, completion of primary vaccination (two doses of mRNA vaccines or protein vaccine, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson for the general population and 3 doses of mRNA vaccines for immunocompromised patients) is required.

A booster dose with the updated bivalent vaccines is recommended at least 3 months after the last dose of the vaccine, or the coronavirus disease in:

* all persons aged 60 and over

* people aged 12-59 who belong to high-risk groups, according to the instructions of the attending physician

* residents and workers in care units for the elderly or other care units for the chronically ill

* Health professionals

* living with people in immunosuppression or other underlying disease

* caregivers of people suffering from diseases that increase the risk of complications from coronavirus

Particularly:

– People who have already been vaccinated with the second booster dose of the monovalent vaccines can be vaccinated with the updated bivalent vaccines (as long as at least 3 months have passed since the last dose of the vaccine).

– Persons who became ill after the administration of the second booster dose of the monovalent vaccines, can be vaccinated with the updated bivalent vaccines (as long as a period of 3 months has passed after the illness).
