It is generally accepted and accepted that the developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases follow exponential rates, not only in the field of pharmacology, but mainly in the field of new technologies, cardiac surgery and implanted devices.
Progressively, the field of cardiology led to important subspecialties such as echocardiography, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology.
At the same time, the field of cardiac surgery, responding to the developments and demands of patients for less bloody surgical procedures, highlights effective techniques, mainly microsurgery with excellent aesthetic results.
It is obvious that all the previous developments and applications require organized hospital sets, where groups of highly specialized health professionals, supported by special technological equipment and hybrid rooms lead to the best clinical result.
HYGEIA and MITERA have an important and memorable history in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
Important pioneering techniques were first applied in our country in the specific hospitals, starting decades ago with the first heart transplant and evolutionarily later with a multitude of new techniques in the field of interventional cardiology, structural heart diseases, electrophysiology and endoscopic cardiac surgery.
Today the two hospitals of the HHG Group, HYGEIA and MITERA, undoubtedly represent a primary set of cardiology and cardiac surgery, comparable to the most important corresponding European centers.
The facts that support this view could be summarized as follows:
• These two hospitals offer full diagnostic and therapeutic coverage for patients of all ages. Indeed, newborns with congenital heart diseases are treated invasively or surgically with more modern methods.
Middle-aged, elderly or even the elderly also enjoy excellent diagnostic and therapeutic coverage, since an extremely important set of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, with long-term specializations in prestigious international centers, apply every modern methodology to their patients.
• The number of hospitalized patients is indicative of the reputation and quality of the cardiovascular care of the two hospitals. Certainly, however, the innovation of the applied actions needs to be highlighted.
Today, in the Group’s hospitals, all kinds of innovative operations available in the quiver of cardiology and cardiac surgery science are practically applied.
Among these, the excellent transcatheter valve programs, leadless pacemaker placements, microsurgical endoscopic heart valve repairs, and certainly advanced arrhythmia management techniques must certainly be mentioned.
The Heart Department of the Group, as a center of clinical excellence has a high knowledge of its responsibility and history. To this end, it will continue to develop for the good of cardiovascular patients first, but definitely also because this is appropriate to the history of the Group.
