by

The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro said this Saturday (5) that it has already verified the circulation of the subvariant Ômicron BQ.1 in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. According to the folder, it was possible to confirm a case with this subvariant of the coronavirus through genetic sequencing.

The secretariat also stated that, at the moment, the recommendation is for people who have not taken the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to look for a health unit on Monday (7) to complete the immunization schedule.

Last Thursday (3), a report by the Sheet showed that a new wave of Covid is already advancing through Asia, Europe and the United States, which has aroused the concern of specialists that it also affects Brazil.

In the state of São Paulo alone, new ICU admissions for Covid grew by 46% between October 17 and 31. In Greater São Paulo, the increase was 73.7% in the same period. According to public health authorities, 324 people were hospitalized in the state of SP last Thursday, which represents about 20% of what was observed in the wave of the omicron in January, but 40% higher than two weeks ago.

Experts say that the withdrawal of protective measures against the coronavirus, such as the use of masks and greater interaction, are already contributing to the increase in the number of cases. The forecast, however, is that the numbers of hospitalizations and deaths will be considerably lower than in the first years of the pandemic.

Data from the SP Covid-19 InfoTracker point out that the reproduction rate of the coronavirus in the country (Rt) is at 0.91 and has been rising since October 10, when it was at 0.68. Ideally, the rate should be below 1 to make it possible to control the virus (in 1, 100 people transmit to 100 others).

The increase in the number of coronavirus cases was also detected in hospitals in São Paulo and in pharmacies across the country.

In the capital of São Paulo, the positive results rate went from 2.5% in the week of October 2nd to 8th to 13.5% between the 23rd and 29th of last month.

Also in the city, the seven-day moving average grew from 142 in early October to 176 in the second week of the month. Then it advanced to 309. The last record points to 505 cases.
