The inauguration of the new Day Care Unit “Nikos Kourkoulos” of Theagenio Hospital took place in the presence of the Minister of Health. The new unit is a donation of Marianna Latsi.
The Unit, which is housed in the facilities of the Hellenic Cancer Society in Pylaia, Thessaloniki, will operate in January 2022. It is estimated that it will provide services to more than 35,000 oncology patients annually.
This is the second Day Care Unit offered by Ms. Latsi to the NSS. It is reminded that the first is housed in the General Cancer and Oncology Hospital “O Agios Savvas” in Athens.
The new unit in the co-capital covers 1,800 sq.m., has a total of 41 chemotherapy positions (27 armchairs and 14 beds). In this area there are five clinics, cardiology laboratory, blood collection room, microbiological and hematology laboratory, emergency room, pharmacy, escort waiting area, dining room, locker rooms and other ancillary areas. Thanks to the donation, the configuration of a special space for the installation of the first robotic system for the dissolution of cytostatic drugs in Greece was launched.
As announced by the donor Marianna Latsi and the president of the Hellenic Cancer Society, Evangelos Filopoulos, another information and awareness program for Young Adult Cancer will be implemented in the memory of journalist Ariadne Gerasimidou, who recently shocked the shortly before her untimely death.
