Brazil has more than 617,000 killed by Covid; data remains affected by attack

by

Brazil recorded 141 deaths from Covid and 5,083 cases of the disease, this Tuesday (14). With that, the country reached 617,121 lives lost and 22,194,297 people infected by Sars-CoV-2.

The pandemic data, however, are still affected by the cyber attack on the Ministry of Health’s system, which took place at the end of last week. Seven states did not update data. They are: GoiĂ¡s, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, RondĂ´nia and Tocantins. In addition, SĂ£o Paulo presented low data, also due to problems related to the hacker attack.

Amidst the problems, the moving average of deaths reached 151 deaths per day. It is the lowest value since April 16, 2020, when it was 142.

The moving average of cases is now 5,427 per day, the lowest since May 2, 2020, when it was 5,416.

Country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between leaf, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.

Data on vaccination against Covid-19 are among those affected, in several states, by the attack on the ministry’s website. In any case, the information has been at least partially updated in 12 states.

Brazil registered 482,838 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Tuesday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 29,987 first doses, 455,423 second doses. In addition, 433,914 booster doses were recorded.

In addition to the multi-state absences, the total data for the day was affected by the negative record of single doses (-2,572). This occurred due to application reviews in CearĂ¡ (-1,754) and Mato Grosso do Sul (-1,526).

CearĂ¡ also revised the first doses applied and had a negative record (-36,335).

“The Department of Health of CearĂ¡ (Sesa) provoked the 184 municipalities in CearĂ¡ to confer data on the application of vaccine against Covid-19 last week. The adjustments in the information of the municipalities caused a slight negative variation in the records of application of immunizing agents . However, this correction adds more transparency to the data, making them more trustworthy with reality,” said, in a statement, Sesa.

In all, 160,204,836 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil —135,405,427 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizing agent. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 139,989,809 people with two doses or one dose of Janssen’s vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 75.10% of the population with the 1st dose and 65.63% of Brazilians with two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 98.84% and 86.36%.

Even those who received two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distance, experts say.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles took place in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and took information off the air, with the interruption of the dissemination of total cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
