The InfoGripe bulletin, released this Friday (18) by Fiocruz, reinforces the growth of Covid-19 cases in the country, mainly among adults.

From October 16th to November 12th, among the cases with a positive laboratory result for a respiratory virus, 10.3% were of Influenza A, 0.3% of Influenza B, 24.2% of respiratory syncytial virus and 47% of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for Covid-19.

In the deaths, in the same period, the tests indicated the presence of Influenza A (4.1%), respiratory syncytial virus (1.4%) and mostly SARS-CoV-2 (83.6%).

For comparison purposes, between September 18 and October 15, the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in exams was 30.2% and, in deaths, 79.5%. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 688,886 people have died in the country as a result of the coronavirus.

In relation to the states, the survey points to a sign of an increase in cases of Covid-19 among the adult population in the states of Amazonas, Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Bahia, Pará, Pernambuco and Santa Catarina also show signs that they may be starting the process of expanding positive cases of the disease.

The document also shows that, when considering the 118 health macro-regions, 38 have a high level of cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome, equivalent to the registration of 1 to 5 occurrences per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week.

The Pantanal region, in Mato Grosso do Sul, is the only one that appears with very high levels of weekly cases, that is, from 5 to 10 new occurrences. In the last 30 weeks, the location appeared 22 times on this level.

In recent days, two new strains of the omicron variant of the coronavirus have been identified for the first time in Brazil. The two strains, already known in the rest of the world, were found in samples from the capital and interior of the state of São Paulo.

And, last Saturday (12), Fiocruz announced the identification of a new subvariant in Amazonas, BE.9. It originated from the omicron subline BA.5.3.2 and was responsible for the increase in cases in the state from September to October.

These subvariants have mutations that may be associated with greater immune escape, but further tests are needed to understand this process against vaccines and whether substrains are more aggressive.
