by

Brazil recorded 11,716 cases and 24 deaths from Covid-19 this Sunday (18). With that, the country reaches 35,914,141 infections and 691,854 lives lost since the beginning of the pandemic.

The moving averages of infections and deaths recorded were 42,650 and 130, an increase, respectively, of 45% and 30% compared to 14 days ago.

The data for the country, collected until 8 pm, are the result of a collaboration between SheetUOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate numbers related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The information is collected daily by the consortium of press vehicles with the state Health Secretariats. This Sunday, 13 states provided updated information.

In April of this year, the consortium of press vehicles stopped updating information on vaccination on weekends and holidays. The measure seeks to avoid inaccuracies in the numbers reported to the reader.

The initiative by the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the actions of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and removed information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of total cases and deaths.

Worldwide, a new WHO estimate points out that Covid-19 was associated with 14.8 million deaths in 2020 and 2021. The number is 2.7 times greater than the 5.4 million deaths officially recorded during those two years .
