Mônica Bergamo: Influenza cases at Einstein, SP, jump from 63 to 1,472 in weeks

The Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo went from 63 patients infected with the influenza A virus of the flu (H1N1 and H3N2), in the second half of November, to 1,472 in the first weeks of December. Influenza B cases increased from eight to 70.

And the Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz recorded a 74% increase in care for people with flu-like symptoms in the emergency room in December, compared to the previous month. Of 1075 tests to detect influenza A, 469 (44%) were positive.

So far, the hospitalization rate for patients with influenza is around 10%. Among those hospitalized, most are moderate cases.

DEMAND

Due to demand, the hospital will include from this Tuesday (21) rapid testing for Influenza A, B and H1N1 in its drive-thru service at the Paulista unit, in the Bela Vista neighborhood.
