Future Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade said this Thursday (29) that she will meet with the WHO (World Health Organization) to assess the progress of Covid-19 in China.
Nísia said that it is necessary to observe whether the increase in cases is the result of variants of the new coronavirus or a reflection of the country’s difficulties in vaccinating its population.
She stated that the future government will still assess “whether it is the case of reviewing the health emergency”. “Emergency does not necessarily mean a more acute situation, but a permanent care situation.”
In April, the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government signed the end of the health emergency caused by Covid. The measure, criticized at the time by SUS managers, was a way for the government to try to circumvent criticism and reinforce the speech that it won the pandemic.
In a statement to the press, the future minister said that the Covid scenario is not one of “out of control”. “But everything in terms of the pandemic has to be said very carefully,” she said.
For her, China was ′′ successful ′′ to contain the transmission of Covid, but did not present the same result to expand immunization.
Nísia said that she will reinforce SUS committees on immunization and the scientific committee for analyzing the pandemic. She reaffirmed that a priority of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is to resume vaccination coverage, and said that Health will “oppose fake news”.
The future minister said that the country cannot “forget” the recent public health policies that led to “setbacks”.
Nísia said that she will announce the composition of her team on January 2nd. She confirmed that Swedenberger do Nascimento Barbosa, now a professor at Fiocruz, will be the executive secretary of Health.
He also confirmed that the Secretariat for Digital Health will be created. The folder should be led by the professor and former first lady of São Paulo Ana Estela Haddad.
The next government is still going to create a specific department for the National Immunization Program.
Members of the working group on health in the transition of government presented this Thursday (29) the main points of their final report.
Former Minister of Health, Arthur Chioro said that the group had difficulty accessing information from the ministry, and had to resort to data from the TCU (Union Court of Auditors) and PAHO (Pan-American Health Organization).
The report suggests that the next government should prioritize the fight against Covid-19, in addition to reducing queues for surgeries and SUS procedures.
Nísia’s team has yet to revoke a series of measures published by the Bolsonaro government on women’s and children’s health, in addition to texts that defend the use of ineffective medicines to combat Covid-19.
