Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) prohibited, this Friday (10), the sale of all ointments used to model and braid hair. While the measure is in effect, no batch of any of these products can be marketed and should not be used by consumers and beauty professionals.
The agency’s decision was taken after recent cases of temporary blindness, severe burning in the eyes, intense tearing, itching, redness, swelling in the eyes and headache linked to the use of ointments.
These products are used to create hairstyles, braids and the so-called baby hair. They are products often used on curly and curly hair to bring definition, but they can be applied to any type of hair.
According to available information, the events occurred mainly with people who took baths in the sea, pool, or even in the rain after using the products.
“The decision is the result of a risk assessment made by Anvisa and was adopted in view of the increase in the number of cases of serious undesirable effects associated with the use of this type of product”, said the regulatory agency, in a note.
The standard remains in force while tests, tests, analyzes or other measures are carried out on these products.
Anvisa warns that even copies previously purchased and existing in homes or beauty salons should not be used. However, there is no forecast for collection.
The regulatory agency also warned health professionals that, when caring for patients with any undesirable effects that are possibly related to the use of hair braiding and styling products or other cosmetic products, notify the case to Anvisa.
