EODY: Up to 62.1% of the percentage of positive samples for the Homicron mutation!

The Omicron variant is galloping in our country. Out of the 6,604 positive samples for SARS-CoV-2, the period from December 20 to December 30, 2,840 were found positive in Omicron (43.0%), according to EODY, with the percentages per day ranging between 12.5% up to 62.1% in our country. Thus, on Thursday, December 30, the percentage of positive samples for the Omicron strain was 62.1% nationwide.

It is noted that in six laboratories across the territory, a test is performed for possible Omicron samples with the method of real-time PCR (S gene drop out method) which can distinguish Omicron samples from the other strains with great reliability.

Specifically, at the Central Laboratory of Public Health (KEDY) in the region of Attica, 52.3% (954 / 1,825) of positive PCRs related to Omicron cases, with daily rates ranging from 0% to 78.0%.

In the area of ​​Thessaloniki, in the Laboratory of the Medical School of AUTh 45.3% (424/935) of the positive PCRs related to Omicron cases, with the daily percentages ranging from 0% to 58.7%, while in the Laboratory of Applied Life Sciences INEV – CERTH 7.0% (31/442) of the positive PCRs were related to Omicron cases, with the percentages per day ranging between 0% and 11%.

In the samples from the Medical School of the University of Patras, 35.7% (383 / 1,073) of the positive PCRs related to Omicron cases, with the percentages per day ranging between 0% and 59.1%.

In the samples from the Medical School of the University of Crete, 45.7% (859 / 1,878) of the positive PCRs were related to Omicron cases, with the percentages per day ranging between 0% and 71.2%. In the samples from the Medical School of the University of Thessaly, 41.9% (58/119) of the positive PCRs related to Omicron cases, with the percentages per day ranging between 0% and 68.7%.

In addition, according to the results of the genomic surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as of December 30, 2021, a total of 100 confirmed cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus carrying the Omicron strain have been diagnosed.

As EODY notes, these cases do not reflect the actual number of Omicron cases in the community, but only a number of suspected cases to be confirmed, along with a number of cases investigated by random sampling of cases diagnosed in Mobile Groups. of EODY.
